LAKESIDE YARN CRAWL & WORLDWIDE KNIT IN PUBLIC DAY

We have less than a week to wait until the Lakeside Yarn Crawl 2016 begins! It’s no coincidence that the same day, June 18th, is Worldwide Knit in Public Day – both celebrate the community that crafts together!
LAKESIDEYARNCRAWL2016The Lakeside Yarn Crawl runs from this Saturday (June 18th) to Monday, September 5th. It involves 12 different yarn stores, from Coldwater to Shelburne, Port Elgin to Meaford! To get involved, simply drop by and pick up your Passport (and first stamp!). Visiting each shop will get you a stamp and an entry into the shop’s draw – fill your passport, leave it at your last stop, and it becomes an entry into the grand prize draw!
We are proud to offer an awesome True North prize basket this year – it features a skein of local alpaca yarn from Blue Mountain Alpacas (normally retails for $60!) in a wooden yarn bowl handcrafted by our favourite local woodworker Terry. To accessorize, we’ve included a 3oz bottle of Soak Celebration wool wash, yarn needles, and a needle (or crochet hook!) of the winner’s choosing. Saturday will be the first day you can collect your passport stamp and gain an entry into the draw for this stellar prize~ Learn more about the Crawl and all of the shops participating on the Lakeside Yarn Crawl website.knitinpublic
For Worldwide Knit In Public day, we want to encourage everyone to share in on the fun! If you share a picture of yourself knitting in public to our Facebook page on this Friday or Saturday you will get an extra 10% off your next in-store purchase! It could be on the bus or the beach, at the coffee shop or the cottage, I’d love to see your awesome projects out there~
If you’re one of the knitters who would love to participate in the comfort of air conditioning, our doors are open to you all day Saturday! Come knit (or crochet) with us! We will have several of our newest yarns available to try out and would love to see you~

Stop by, say Hello

This event started in 2005 as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other’s company.
From founder Danielle Landes: “Knitting is such a solitary act that it’s easy to knit alone somewhere and sink into your work without thinking about all the other knitters out there.
Neighbours could spend all their lives never knowing that the other knits.
This is a specific day to get out of your house and go to a local event
(with your knitting in tow) just for people like you.
Who knows you might even bump into your neighbour!”

Riverside Yarns - Stop H on the map

Riverside Yarns was created when Colleen Raco, an interior designer, rediscovered her “inner knitter” and realized there was nowhere to buy quality yarns in Owen Sound. She opened the store in September 2006 in a historic building in the recently rejuvenated downtown core. It is a cozy, comfortable and colourful place to shop for the newest yarns, browse through unique patterns, and be inspired by the many knitted samples. The store has proven very popular with local knitters and tourists alike and has inspired many new knitters to fall in love with fiber.
Please take an opportunity to take a look around the site and if you have any questions by all means get in touch.

Alliston Yarns - Stop E on the Map

In June 1, 2013 the doors opened for the first time realizing my dream of Alliston Yarns!

We have hundreds of colourful yarns, buttons, books, patterns, needles, indeed all the accessories needed to work with yarns adorn the walls and shelving of this adorable nook.

Hand knit and crochet shawls, blankets, sweaters, dresses and doll clothing cover the walls.  The shelves are topped with many  gifts ideas including stuffed animals, wooden toys and home-made accessories.  Five hat racks are kept filled with baby hats/bonnets, youth and character hats.

Our highly qualified staff have crochet, knitting and finishing classes available as well.

We are open 6 days a week.
Our philosophy has been to somehow give back to the community.

This is why we started a program called " Head to Toes" and Alliston Yarns in the Headquarters of this Alliston charity.

What is "Head To Toes"
Many people have unwanted yarns, crochet cotton, needles and crochet hooks.  They are encouraged to drop them off to the store where they are picked up by caring people who manufacture items with these and then return the items to the store to be donated to Family Christmas Basket in the Alliston area .

In 2014 over 750 beautiful handmade items were donated to the Alliston Lions Club as well as 8 other chritable organizations with the best wishes from the general public.

We anticipate that every year going forward will be bigger and better and appreciated all the hjelp we receive.

If you want to donate to the cause please contact us by clicking on our contact page or call us at705.434.0880
