Doc Knits in Port Elgin - Stop # H

Stop # H - on the Lakeside Yarn Crawl

About Us

Docknits is the result of Sue's lifelong passion for knitting. Doctor Sue Gundrum is not only a knitter, but also a practicing Family Physician in Port Elgin. Sue and her talented staff see Docknits as a source of creativity, learning, and camaraderie for yarn enthusiasts. Everyone is welcome at our bright, cheerful, shop; regardless of skill level or experience.  We're eager to knit with you!
Jeffi has been fascinated by all things to do with colour and wool since she was very young.  Knitting is her first fibre love but she also explores what colour can do through spinning, crochet, rigid heddle weaving, needle felting, and quilting.  She also enjoys designing her own patterns and loves to share the fibre arts with people of all ages and ability levels.  Dyeing yarns for knitting, crochet and weaving or fibre for needle felters and spinners is her newest joy in the fibre world.
Artistic pursuits are Kirsten's lifeblood, including numerous fibre arts.  Kirsten enthusiastically brings crochet expertise to Docknits.  Having mastered a wide spectrum of crochet techniques, Kirsten enjoys the creativity of designing her own patterns, which sometimes merge knitting with crochet.
Peggy is an avid knitter who has explored most techniques, including cables, intarsia, fair isle and lace work.  She has knit for Philosophers Wool for 25 years and has recently been accepted as a knitter for the FictionKNITstas contest.  Peggy designed a shawl for an author to wear at the book reading tour that will be held in various locations in Canada in the Spring of 2013.  Peggy enjoys teaching others and is passionate about the craft of knitting.

Philosopher's Wool - Inverhuron... on the shores of Lake Huron

Our store in Inverhuron, is on our farm at 2 Alma Street and is open 6 days a week throughout the year and, through July and August, usually on Sundays too.
We are normally open from 10 AM to 4 PM but if you are coming from afar, it is a good idea for you to call ahead (519-368-5354).
Our store is in an 1851 log cabin, and features 100 or so handknit sweaters which we are happy to sell you ready-made, or the kit to make your own. We have an extensive button collection as well as Addi Turbo circular knitting needles.
Apart from wool in 41 colours and 2 weights ( worsted and chunky), we also sell Queen size blankets, milled for us in PEI, hats, scarves, socks, mitts, sheepskins, and various items of sheep art.

Mission statement
Our mission is to support sustainable agriculture, with about 25% of web sales devoted to that purpose. We have always been a fair trade company, producing wool yarn that is as natural and organic as possible.
We specialise in hand knitting kits for Fair Isle sweaters, shawls and cardigans. Our simplified
technique is available
from our DVD and books.
You are free to wander about the Farm and sometimes Ann or Eugene will give you a guided tour.
